High above the bustle of San Francisco, this mid-century high-rise now serves as a quiet counterpoint to city life. It's been transformed into a weekend retreat designed for rest, reconnection, and effortless living.
Perched on the 29th floor with sweeping views of the Bay, this pied-à-terre is located in the heart of Russian Hill and was originally designed by legendary architect Joseph Eichler. Despite retaining traces of its original finishes, the apartment was taken down to the studs, offering a blank canvas to respectfully evolve the space for contemporary life.
Design That Works as Beautifully as It Looks
Projects like this are a reminder that the most seamless spaces are built on careful planning long before install day. This building came with very specific rules around scheduling, deliveries, and construction, which is why collaborating early with architects and a builder experienced in the same high-rise made all the difference.
That same level of forethought extended to the interiors themselves. One of the biggest challenges was selecting furnishings that complemented the architecture without competing with the view. Every piece was carefully considered to support the sightlines and sense of calm, ensuring the Bay remained the true focal point of the space.
